Custom buttons

Missing a symbol you use all the time? Add LaTeX inline, or create your own keys on the MATH Keys keyboard.

How to create custom buttons

To create a custom button, fill in two fields in the extension's options:

1. Custom Name

The Custom Name determines the text displayed on your button. You can enter plain text — for example, typing Phi will label the button "Phi". If you want the button to display the actual symbol, you can use an HTML entity code (for example φ displays φ). You can find entity codes for most symbols on reference sites such as W3Schools' character reference.

2. Custom LaTeX

The Custom LaTeX field is what makes the button work. Enter the LaTeX code the button should insert — for example, \phi produces the phi symbol φ in your equation. See our LaTeX page for a list of examples.

Once both fields are filled in, save your options and your new button will appear on the MATH Keys keyboard, ready to use. You can also add LaTeX directly to any equation without creating a button.
